The family business
Domhoff traveling tailors
In 1860, Leonardus Theodorus Domhoff founded the family business. The company was located in Dordrecht, which was an important trading center at the time. He had three sons who continued the business under the name Gebroeders Domhoff. They quickly expanded to multiple cities and became one of the largest tailors in the Netherlands.
In 1970, my grandfather invested a lot of time in developing an alternative to completely handmade suits. This evolved into standardized models that tailored to customers’ preferences and forms, while maintaining the quality and affordability of custom-made suits.
In 1972, my grandfather established an independent company named Domhoff Travelling Tailors. He visited his clients throughout the Netherlands and Belgium, either at their homes or offices. This was highly efficient for clients with busy schedules.
In 2001, Travelling Tailors expanded to Scotland, where my uncle J.H. Domhoff still frequently travels for client engagements.
My grandfather passed away on 10th March 2019 at the age of 84. After his passing, my uncle, Jan Hendrik Jr., took full ownership of the company. In honor of my grandfather’s life’s work, the family had gold pins made, which we proudly wear on special occasions.
To continue the family history, I attach a gold pin to each hat in memory of my grandfather and the Domhoff name.
